What are your expectations?

To build muscles, you should have realistic expectations. Despite many assertions to the contrary, the top bodybuilders do take drugs, and they're genetically elite to begin with.

For example, Arnold Schwarzenegger was genetically elite because, to build muscles, he could work out six times a week, and still recover and build muscles.

Most of us, ordinary weight trainers, can't hope to build muscles in routines similar to his. Therefore, to build muscles, even a five-year program is unrealistic for most of us, ordinary weight trainers.

The isolation and shaping exercises

To build muscles, you need neither isolation nor shaping exercises. Despite many assertions to the contrary, it's far better to train the major muscles. Therefore, do squats, dead lifts, leg presses, bench presses, etc. To build muscles, hit the major muscle groups in the legs, in the back, etc. This approach also makes it easier to grow the smaller muscles.

The nutrition

Despite many assertions to the contrary, when you build muscles, the nutrition is simple. Take the time to set up the proper diet, and you will need no supplements.

The routines

To build muscles, you need to have realistic routines. Despite many many assertions to the contrary, training should be limited to no more than three times per week. You can't possibly build muscles, if you train more often than that.

Why? Because the muscle grows not in the gym, but when it is resting. Because you get bigger by stimulating muscle growth in the gym, and by recovering out of the gym.

The steroids

Despite many assertions to the contrary, you will need steroids, because competition winners do use steroids. Elite bodybuilders are obliged to take drugs, if they want to succeed, if they want to keep up with the competition.

The supplements

Despite many assertions to the contrary, most supplements are a waste of time and money. If you want to build muscles, there is no need for expensive supplements. For example, you can make a protein shake, if you add milk powder to milk, throw in a banana, and mix it all up.
